How else but inverted,
could this trusting Soul
be brought from the topsy-turvy
of Pokhara’s bazaar?
The soft gloom of her down,
now up,
mirroring the dark deed
soon to be executed.
With calm reassurance she is welcomed
to this quiet corner of the food forest,
and thanked,
ahead of prayer.
Bismillah …
Two hearts suspended,
the blade of separation
must come as such a shock.
One life ebbing
with each fluttering second,
until a new stillness
returns to the shade
I now enjoy
alone.
But what of enjoyment?
Was I gentle enough
in assisting our gratitude
for a joyfully-shared Eid meal?
And between mouthfuls,
who will envision
the regal blue splendour
within this feathery sheen,
now stained
a seeping deep red?
