Like Dancers

by Ashley C Knowlton

they stretch like dancers
the ducks and chickens
stretching one side at a time
right then left or
left then right
steadily reaching their leg back with
ballerina toes pointed,
Their wing gracefully fans out and back
allowing their feathers to greet their feet—
about the only time they appear delicate
